UMW Men's Basketball Falls at Randolph-Macon, 79-51

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped a 79-51 decision at Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday night in Ashland, Va. The Eagles slip to 6-3 on the season.

In a battle of teams receiving votes in this week's national poll, both offenses came out firing, as both teams shot an identical 55.4% from the floor in the first half. The difference in the first half was the red-hot shooting by the hosts behind the three-point line, and the Yellow Jackets held a 48-33 halftime lead.

Both teams cooled in the second half, and the Eagles were unable to draw to within striking distance.

The Eagles were led by sophomore guard Dorian Davis, who scored 10 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor. Greg Rowson netted nine, and Daniel Peterson scored six and hauled in seven rebounds.

For the night, the Eagles shot 44.7% from the field (21-47), making 9-20 free throws and were held without a three pointer. Randolph-Macon shot 42.9% (24-56), making 17-39 three point tries and 14-17 free throws.

UMW will return to action on Friday night, when they host Guilford College at 7:00 p.m.
