UMW Men's Basketball Tops Lynchburg, 79-52, To Win 3rd Straight

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team used a balanced attack to defeat the University of Lynchburg, 79-52, on Saturday evening at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles, winners of three straight, improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Eagles dug themselves an early 7-0 hole, but immediately went on a 12-3 run to take the lead. Daniel Peterson and Zach Blue each connected on three pointers in the stretch. The lead switched hands several times, before Greg Rowson hit a three pointer and Blue followed with four straight, expanding the cushion to 27-21 with 4:36 left in the half.

A Zyon Grant three upped the margin to 32-21. The Hornets then scored 10 straight to pull to within one, and briefly grabbed the lead before a Dorian Davis jumper and another Rowson triple gave UMW a 37-33 lead at halftime.

The Eagles started the second half on a 12-0 run, with Matias Prock scoring five and Daniel Peterson four. A pair of Cameron McCravy free throws and a three from Davis upped the margin to 54-35 with 10:30 left.

Four points from Rowson and a basket from Davis extended the lead to 60-35 with 8:29 on the clock, and UMW held the Hornets at bay down the stretch for the 79-52 victory.

Rowson had 18 points and seven rebounds, while Prock scored 15 and Blue 14 for UMW. The Eagles shot 48.1% from the field (25-52), making 8-21 three point tries, and 21-30 free throws. Lynchburg shot 30.9% (17-55). making 6-27 three point attempts and 12-13 free throws. 

UMW will be back in action on November 25 against Rowan University at the CNU Holiday Classic at 2:00 p.m.
