The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team fell to Frostburg State University 90-70, on Saturday afternoon at Ron Rosner Arena. Senior Johnny Cronin led Mary Washington (14-5, 6-2) with 14 points. 

The Eagles got out to an early 4-3 lead thanks to a Da'Shawn Cook jump shot and a layup from Johnn Cronin. From there, the Bobcats took control of the game, going on a 15-point run, holding Mary Washington scoreless for six minutes. Sophomore Riley Welch broke the silence for the Eagles, making two shots at the foul line, putting the score at 18-5. 

With 10 minutes left in the half, freshman Greg Rowson scored his first points of the game, cutting the lead to 21-7. The Bobcats were then able to drain two more three-point baskets before Da'Shawn Cook sank two free throws. 

The Eagles then locked in on defense, holding the Bobcats scoreless for several minutes. Rowson helped Mary Washington's cause, going 2-2 on a trip to the line and finished a layup, shrinking the lead to 27-13 with 6:49 to play.

Senior Jacob Williams was able to get his first points of the game on a made layup before Frostburg State answered with a three, pushing the lead to 30-15. UMW then was able to pump up the crowd with a trio of three-pointers from Welch and fellow sophomores Mike Janowski and Drew Johnson, cutting the lead to 36-24. 

The last minute of the half saw a lot of action, as the Eagles saw baskets from Welch and Janowski, along with two three-pointers from Frostburg State. The Eagles ended the half and went to the locker room with the score standing at 44-28.

The Bobcats started the second half just as fast as the first, adding five points on the board in the first minute. Cronin then made a trip to the line, in which he made one of two shots, setting the score at 49-29. 

The Eagles were then able to add three points, as Cook drained a shot from deep, followed by a made layup by junior Mark Madison making the score 49-34.

Welch then added another two points with a made layup before Frostburg State was able to sink another three-point basket, putting the score at 57-41 with 12:56 remaining.

Determined to close the gap, Ra'Shawn Cook added two points off a made jump shot. The Bobcats then stretched their lead to 71-51 with 9:32 to play. 

After nearly two minutes without scoring for either team, Cronin broke the silence with another made layup followed by a trip to the line, in which he made one of two shots. Cronin continued to bully his way to the basket, as he made another layup, closing the Bobcats' lead to only 71-56. 

Frostburg then went on a 9-2 run to take an 80-58 advantage with 5:04 to play. The Eagles remained determined to make a comeback but the Bobcats kept knocking down tough shots to secure a 90-70 win. 

Cook added 12 points, while Welch and Rowson both had 11 points a piece.

The Eagles will be back in action January 30 as they play Salisbury on the road.
