Senior Eric Shaw scored 19 points to lead the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team past Penn St.-Harrisburg, 77-74, on Saturday afternoon in Harrisburg, PA. The Eagles improve to 10-3 overall, and 4-2 in the CAC.

Senior Eric Shaw got the scoring started as he knocked down a three-pointer and a layup to put the Eagles up 5-0 just 2:41 into the game. A.J. Robinson stretched the lead to 12-2 on a made three-pointer with 14:30 remaining in the half. The Nittany Lions scored the next six points to draw within four, 12-8, with 13:24 left. 

Freshman Michael Janowski came off the bench to knock down a three-pointer to give the Eagles a 17-11 lead with 10:20 remaining. The Eagles then proceeded to make three straight three-pointers, two of them coming from Janowski, to push the lead to 26-19 with 7:25 left in the half. A free throw from Khiorie Stewart with 6:52 left gave UMW their biggest lead of the half at eight, 29-21. 

Penn St.-Harrisburg went on a 16-7 run over the next 3:59 to take the lead 37-36. Freshman Drew Johnson made a three-pointer to take the lead back, 39-37, with 1:19 remaining in the half. Penn St.-Harrisburg hit a three-pointer with five-seconds left and the Eagles were down 40-39 going into halftime. Janowski and Shaw led the Eagles with nine points a piece in the first half.

Junior Johnny Cronin put the Eagles up 41-40 on a layup, 41 seconds into the second half. From there, the Nittany Lions went on a 9-1 run over the next 3:34 to take the lead 49-42. Johnson made a three-pointer and then a layup to cut the lead to 50-47 with 13:37 left in the second half.

After the Johnson layup, the Eagles went on an 8-0 run that was capped by two free throws from Shaw to give UMW the advantage, 55-50 with 11:50 left in the game. The Nittany Lions proceeded to score the next four points and cut the lead to 55-54. 

Johnson knocked down two free throws with 9:38 left to push the Eagles lead to 59-54. Shaw then made two free throws with 6:13 left in the game to keep the Eagles ahead by 5, 65-60. The Nittany Lions pulled with one three times over the next 2:57, but UMW would never let them get the lead during that time. 

Stewart made a free throw with 1:41 left to put the Eagles up three, 74-71. Penn St.-Harrisburg then pulled within one again, 74-73, on a layup with 1:20 left. Mark Madison made two clutch free throws with nine-seconds left to give UMW a 77-74 lead. Penn St.-Harrisburg shot a three-pointer from deep, but was off the mark and UMW escaped with a 77-74 win in Harrisburg.

Janowski scored a career-high 13 points making 4-6 three-pointers. Stewart added 13 points and Johnson netted 12 points with nine rebounds for the Eagles. Trent Thomas scored 15 points to lead the way for the Nittany Lions. 

The Eagles shot 43.5% (27-62) from the field, making 10-28 three-pointers, and 13-23 free throws. The Nittany Lions shot 42.9% (27-63) from the field, making 10-22 three-pointers, and 10-19 free throws. The Eagles had 11 steals on the day. 

UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Frostburg St. in a CAC matchup with tip-off set for 8 p.m.
