The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team suffered a loss to Salisbury University, 70-66, on Saturday afternoon in Rosner Arena. UMW falls to 6-3 overall, and 2-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play. Senior Eric Shaw finished the game with 20 points.

In the first half, the Salisbury got off to a fast start, as they went up 5-0. Shaw scored seven straight points to put the Eagles up 7-5 with 16:45 remaining. Shaw then made a free throw to put UMW up 11-7 with 11:55 remaining in the first half.

The Sea Gulls went on an 11-0 run over the next 2:56 to take back the lead, 18-11. Salisbury expanded the lead to 26-13 with 6:32 remaining. The Eagles chipped back and cut the lead to 26-19 with 4:35 left in the first. Salisbury closed the half on a 12-5 run to take the lead into the half at 38-24. Shaw led UMW in the first half with 12 points. 

In the second half, Salisbury gained an advantage of 42-24 just 2:04 in. UMW cut the lead to 10 with 13:25 remaining on a bucket from Drew Johnson. Salisbury then regained a 58-43 advantage with 8:48 remaining in the game. 

Over the next 2:44, UMW went on a 13-0 run that was capped on a three point basket from Mark Madison to cut the deficit to 58-56. Jacob Williams tied the game, 60-60, on a layup with 5:17 remaining. Williams then gave the Eagles their first lead of the second half, 62-61, on another layup with 4:53 left.

Williams converted two free throws with 2:00 remaining to keep the Eagles ahead 66-65. Salisbury then took the lead and made free throws to end the game and win 70-66. 

Williams scored 16 points on 7-10 shooting, while Madison added 11 points. Johnny Cronin brought in 11 rebounds and Shaw finished with nine rebounds. Chad Barcikowski led the Seagulls with 25 points.

The Eagles shot 36.2%(21-58) from the field, making 4-26 three pointers, and 20-24 free throws. The Seagulls shot 42.2%(27-64) from the field, making 5-15 three pointers, and 11-15 free throws. UMW out-rebounded Salisbury 40-37.
