The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped a 64-61 decision to Marymount University on Wednesday evening. The Eagles fall to 11-13 overall and 6-11 in Capital Athletic Conference play. Eric Shaw led the Eagles with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

In the first half, Marymount jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the first two minutes, but the Eagles used a pair of free throws from Shaw and a three-pointer from A.J. Robinson to tie the game at 9-9 at the 14:45 mark.

Marymount then poured in seven points over the next 1:44 to go up 16-9, but an old-fashioned three from Emerson Burk brought the Eagles within four, at 16-12, with 12:44 left in the half.

Marymount responded by going on a 15-7 run, up 31-19, with 5:14 left in the half. The two teams exchanged baskets for the remainder of the half, with Marymount holding a 36-25 edge.

In the second, Marymount extended their lead to 14, at 41-27, by the 18:38 mark. The teams traded baskets until Marymount held a 46-31 lead with 16:17 on the clock.

The Eagles responded with a huge 10-1 run that cut the deficit to 47-41 with 12:16 left. The run was fueled by six from Lutkenhaus, and two each from Robinson and Burk.

Marymount pushed the lead back to 56-43 with just under 10 minutes left, but the Eagles went on another huge run. By the 1:34 mark, the Eagles cut the lead to 58-55 off of five points from Shaw, three from Robinson, and two each from Johnny Cronin and Austin Hall.

After Marymount hit a jumper to push the lead back to five, Shaw nailed a three-pointer to bring the Eagles within two, at 60-58, with 54 seconds left. Marymount knocked down a pair of free throws with 21 seconds left to go up four, but Lutkenhaus hit a three with four seconds left to cut the deficit to one.

Marymount hit two more free throws to cap the scoring at 64-61 and the Eagles were unable to send the game into overtime on the last possession.

Shaw went 7-14 from the field, while adding four assists, two steals, and two blocks. Cronin recorded his third double-double in the past four games, posting 12 points and 11 boards. Lutkenhaus had 11 points, four boards, and four blocks.

Mary Washington shot 35.5% from the field (22-62), making 5-20 three-pointers and 12-18 free throws. Marymount shot 36.8% from the field (25-68), making 7-20 three-pointers and 7-10 free throws.

The Eagles are back in action on Saturday at 3:00 pm as they travel to Wesley.
