A balanced attack led the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 77-51 win over Wesley College on Saturday afternoon in the Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 8-7 overall and 4-4 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles jumped ahead early, using a 14-3 run to start the game. Wesley scored five straight to cut the deficit to 14-8 with 11:26 left in the half, but the Eagles responded by scoring 18 unanswered to take a commanding 32-8 lead with just 5:13 left in the first. Jacob Williams, Eric Shaw and A.J. Robinson each scored five to fuel the run, with Johnny Cronin chipping in three.

Wesley scored 13 straight to end the first half, narrowing the Eagles' lead to 32-21 at the break.

In the second, the Eagles pushed the lead back up to 23, at 52-29, in the first eight minutes of action, thanks to Williams, Shaw and Cronin, who scored the first 20 points of the half for the Eagles.

A Jamal Newton three-pointer and back-to-back buckets from John Lutkenhaus pushed the Eagles' lead to 59-34 with 10:48 left in the contest.

The Eagles' largest lead of the game came at the 6:48 mark when Lutkenhaus hit a lay up to go up 71-40. Austin Hall hit a three-pointer with 1:34 left in the game to cap the scoring at 77-51.

Shaw notched a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing as many boards. Cronin was 6-9 en route to 13 points. Lutkenhaus scored 12 points, pulled in seven boards, and dished out four assists, while Williams scored 12, grabbed five boards, and had four assists. Alexander Brayboy added five blocks.  

Mary Washington shot 47.8% from the field (32-67), making 9-26 three-pointers and 4-12 free throws. Wesley shot 29.0% from the field (20-69), making 3-12 three-pointers and 8-15 free throws. UMW held a 54-42 advantage on the boards.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday as they visit Christopher Newport at 8:00 pm.
