Freshman guard Austin Hall scored 20 points, including six first half three pointers, to pace five Eagles in double figures as the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team defeated Washington & Jefferson College, 94-43, on Friday night at Ron Rosner Arena in day one of the UMW Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the year.

Hall was the story of the first half, as UMW raced to a 50-22 halftime lead. The 6-0 freshman scored 18 points on 6-9 shooting, including 6-7 on three points shots. Sophomore forward Johnny Cronin scored all eight of his points in the opening stanza on 4-4 shooting.

In the second, the Eagles shared the ball, resulting in four more players reaching double figures. Senior forward John Lutkenhaus scored 16 points on the night on 6-11 shooting with four three pointers and added seven rebounds, and senior Emerson Burk added 10 points and seven boards. Sophomore Tyler Withers scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds, and senior guard Brent Mahoney added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Eagles shot a sizzling 52.9% from the field, including 16-35 three pointers (45.7%), and made 4-4 free throws. The Presidents shot 15-53 from the floor (28.3%), making 6-25 three pointers and 7-26 free throws. The Eagles forced 19 turnovers while blocking seven shots and handing out 22 assists.

Mary Washington won by the largest margin since UMW topped Penn College, 97-31, in 2007. The Eagles will face Dickinson College in the championship on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Washington & Jefferson will face Arcadia at noon in the consolation game.
