UMW Men Win Third Straight, 67-45, Over York to Improve to 10-9

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team topped conference foe York, 67-45, on Monday evening in the Ron Rosner Area. With the win, the Eagles improve to 10-9 on the season, and 6-6 in Capital Athletic Conference play. The Eagles were led by another double-double from junior forward John Lutkenhaus.

The Eagles took control of the game early, and held a 15-point advantage at the half, at 30-15. Eric Shaw boosted the Eagles to their strong start with seven first half points. The Eagles were up 12-10 about midway through the half, but ended on an 18-5 run to cushion their lead.  TJ Jones, Mark Madison, and Emerson Burk each scored six points to help fuel the run.

In the second, the Eagles boosted their lead to 20, at 43-23, at the 14:24 mark from a Jones layup. York cut the deficit to 13, at 51-38, but back to back three pointers and an old-fashioned three from Lutkenhaus, plus a free throw from Jones, gave the Eagles a 61-43 lead with 3:46 remaining. Jones and Tyler Thurston each knocked down two free throws, and Madison nailed another jumper to put a cap on the scoring for the evening.

Lutkenhaus was 4-7 from the floor, with 2-4 three pointers, and 1-1 free throws, while hauling in 11 boards. Jones scored 17 on 7-13 shooting. Shaw added 13 and Madison had 11.

The Eagles shot 46.4% for the game (26-56), making 5-10 three pointers, and 10-15 free throws. York shot 39.5% (17-43), making 4-12 three pointers, and 7-8 free throws. The Eagles won the battle on the boards, 30-26, and York committed 21 turnovers to just 10 for UMW.

Mary Washington is back in action on Wednesday evening at 8:00 pm as they visit St. Mary's College for another CAC matchup.
