Lutkenhaus' 17 Points Lead UMW Men's Basketball to 82-61 Win Over Penn State Harrisburg

Junior forward John Lutkenhaus scored 17 points, grabbed eight boards, and dished out five assists to lead the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to an 82-61 victory over conference foe Penn St.-Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon  in the Ron Rosner Arena. Freshman forward Johnny Cronin scored 14 and freshman guard Mark Madison added 10 for the Eagles.

Eight seconds into the game, Madison hit a mid-range jumper off a T.J. Jones steal and dish to take an early 2-0 lead. After Penn St.-Harrisburg tied the score at two, UMW used an 8-0 run on layups from freshman guards Jacob Williams and Madison, and three pointers from Lutkenhaus and Jones to take a 10-2 lead. The Eagles never trailed in the contest.

The Eagles gave the Lions all they could handle with constant full court pressure, forcing them to 18 turnovers in the first half alone. With just under four minutes left in the first, the Eagles extended their lead to 18. Penn St.-Harrisburg hit a layup to bring the score to 37-21, but UMW would end the half on a 11-2 run, increasing their lead to 25 points. In the run to finish the half, Lutkenhaus scored six, Asa Scott scored four, and Williams scored one for the Eagles.

In the second, teams exchanged buckets for much of the half but the Lions continued to struggle with the Eagles' full court pressure. Cronin scored eight of his 14 and grabbed five of his six boards in the second half. Also in the second, the Eagles saw 16 points from the bench, including six from Haden Thompson, four from Emerson Burke, and three from both Brent Mahoney and L.J. Baylor.

Lutkenhaus led the Eagles in points, rebounds, assists and blocks in the win. Cronin went 6-8 from the floor and 2-3 from the line en route to 14 points. Madison shot 4-8 from the field and 2-4 from three for 10 points.
