The 9th annual UMW 5K Run was held on September 21, 2013 as part of the UMW Family Weekend Program. The race kicked off at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning with a field of over 100 runners.
The event, run by head men's basketball coach Rod Wood, kicks off Family Weekend with one of the highest-attended events of the day. Both the men's and women's teams help run the event.
The course included a scenic run through the heart of the UMW campus and the surrounding neighborhoods. 2-time champion Zach Whalen was the top finisher (18:44), followed by Matt Lloyd (19:38) and Brett Laub (19:47). The top female finishers were Lisa Trotten (23:18), followed by Liz Futrell (23:50) and Erin Hickey (24:00).
In addition to the great time had by the runners and family members, lots of shoes were collected for the One World Running organization which collects shoes and sends them to Third World countries.
