Senior Dajon Daniel scored a game-high 18 points to lead the 12th ranked University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 64-53 win over Marymount University on Saturday at the Anderson Center. The Eagles improve to 17-2 for the first time in program history, and move to 10-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles started strong, building an 18-7 lead just over five minutes into play. Five different Eagles scored in the opening run, spurred on by Daniel's five. The lead swelled to 13 on a Marcellus Holley three pointer with 11:51 remaining in the half, but the Saints chipped away with Dylan Farinet and Bradley Riester on the bench in foul trouble. The Saints closed the half on a 14-5 run, closing the intermission score at 34-32, UMW.

The Saints were able to tie the score twice in the early going of the second half before taking their first lead of the day at 39-38, and upped the lead to three at 47-44 with 10:35 remaining. The eagles answered with a 13-0 run, led by five points each from Taylor Johnson and Dom Morra, to lead, 57-47, with 3:44 to go.

The Saints were able to close the gap with five straight points, but UMW then outscored the visitors, 7-1, to close the game for the 64-53 win. In addition to Daniel's 18 points, he added three rebounds and three steals. Johnson scored 12 points and added four rebounds and two steals, and Morra scored 12 and added team highs of seven rebounds and five assists with a pair of steals. Marymount was led by Jesse Konadu's 16 points.

Mary Washington shot just 35% for the game (21-60), making eight three pointers, and going 14-25 from the free throw line. Marymount went 18-49 from the field (36.7%), going 8-24 from long distance and 9-12 from the charity stripe. Marymount led in rebounds, 45-35, but UMW won the turnover battle,m making just seven turnovers while forcing Marymount into 23.

The Eagles' 17-2 start is their best ever, eclipsing the 16-2 start by the 2002-03 team that finished 24-5 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning the CAC Tournament title.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Wednesday night when they visit 24th ranked St. Mary's College in another CAC showdown. Tip is set for 8:00 p.m.
