Junior Taylor Johnson scored a game-high 17 points and senior forward Dylan Farinet added 15 to lead the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 64-56 win at Marymount University on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Saints fall to 6-2 and 1-1.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, and extended it to as much as 17 points in the first half, making six of their first eight three point attempts, including three from Farinet, who scored all but one of his baskets in the first half. His efforts built the lead to 41-28 at halftime.

In the second half, the teams battled back and forth throughout the first 10 minutes, but the Saints went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to just four at 56-52 with 4:16 left. An offensive rebound and layup from sophomore John Yoxthimer ended the run with 3:39 to play, and after another Saints basket, UMW made five straight free throws to return the lead to nine at 63-54 with just 25 seconds left.

The Eagles held on, shooting 44.7% from the floor (21-47), despite going ice cold for a period in the second half. UMW connected for 9-18 three pointers, and limited Marymount to just 5-20 three pointers and 42% shooting overalll. The Saints led in rebounds, 35-29, but UMW forced 16 turnovers.

Johnson made 5-9 field goals, including 3-5 three pointers, and made all four of his free throws. Farinet went 5-10, making all three three point attempts, and added four rebounds and four assists. Senior Bradley Riester led UMW with six rebounds and added nine points, while Yoxthimer collected five rebounds.

The Eagles will return to action next Saturday when they host 12th ranked St. mary's College in the final CAC game of the fall semester. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
