#17 UMW Hosts CNU for 2014 CAC Championship

The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington men's basketball team will host Christopher Newport University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference championship.

The Eagles, 21-5 on the season, defeated third seeded St. Mary's College, 70-65, on Thursday night to advance to the finals, while Christopher Newport upset top seed Wesley College, giving UMW the opportunoty to host the title game for the second time in three years at the Anderson Center.

Mary Washington is led by senior guard Bradley Riester, who averages 18.1 PPG. Junior Taylor Johnson scores 13.8 PPG, and netted a game-high 22 against St. Mary's on Thursday. Senior Dylan Farinet averages 13.2 PPG, followed by senior Dajon Daniel at 11.2 PPG and senior Dom Morra at 7.8. Johnson leads with 6.6 rebounds per game followed by Farinet with 6.5. Riester ranks third in the nation with 94 three pointers made.

CNU
The Captains are led by senior Tra Benefield, who scores 18.2 PPG, and junior Mike Cherry, who averages 13.7 PPG. Benefield also leads with 7.6 rebounds per contest.

The Eagles and Captains split their regular season matchups, with the Eagles winning, 76-65, in Fredericksburg, and CNU winning, 74-61, in Newport News.

Tickets will be available for sale at the ticket booth on Saturday. No passes will be accepted. All UMW students will be admitted free with a valid I.D. Ticket prices are $7 for chairback reserved seats, $5 for general admission, and $3 for students/military/seniors.
