The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team, led by sophomore guard Taylor Johnson, downed Marymount University on Saturday afternoon to extend their Capital Athletic Conference winning streak to four games. The Eagles shot a sterling 60.5% from the field along with 50% from three point territory with Johnson going 5-5 from long range.

UMW started off slow with a couple of turnovers to fall to an early four point deficit. Nearly four minutes into the first half Bradley Riester hit a three pointer to start off his good shooting night and retake the lead. The junior guard led all scorers at halftime with 11 points. With eleven minutes left in the half, an Antonio Ortega three pointer kicked off a 20-2 run to extend the Eagles' lead to 32-14.

The visiting Saints crawled back with an 8-2 run of their own to close out the half and cut the deficit to 34-22. The Eagles shot 57.9% (11-19) from the field in the first half compared to Marymount's 39.1% (9-23).

Marymount's Aaron Walsh opened the second half with a layup before the Eagles went on a 14-0 run, nine off the hot hand of Johnson. With a 48-24 lead at the 14:36 mark, the Eagles finally ceded a field goal to Reed Scott to break the run.

With just under six minutes to play and a 66-35 Eagles advantage, Coach Wood went entirely to his bench to close out the contest. After a few minutes of back and forth action, the Eagles bench finished play with a 10-3 run of their own.

Johnson led all scorers with 18 (6-6 fg) and six rebounds. Dylan Farinet added in 15 points for the Eagles (5-7). Marymount was carried by Scott who had 12 points (6-8). The Eagles move to 11-10 (5-4) on the season while the Saints fall to 7-15 (2-7).

Mary Washington returns to action on Wednesday as the Eagles travel to face Capital Athletic Conference foe Wesley College at 8 p.m.
