Three Eagles reached double figures, but it wasn't enough as the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference and home opener to Frostburg State University, 78-72, on Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center. The Eagles fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in league play.

The Bobcats took the lead early and never trailed again, taking the lead at 8-7 five minutes into the game, and ran the lead to as many as 10 at 20-10 with 10:27 remaining. UMW used a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to one at 24-23 with 5:27 left. The Bobcats led by three, 38-35, at halftime.

UMW kept Frostburg close in the second half, but FSU shot 16-24 from the floor in the final 20 minutes to take the win. The Bobcats led by as many as 12 before UMW closed the gap to six by the final buzzer.

Frostburg shot a blistering 57% from the floor, while UMW shot 42.4% for the game. The Eagles led in rebounding, 34-30. Sophomore guard Jamie Richardson led UMW with 19 points, while Lamont Fields scored 17 points and added six rebounds and Bradley Riester added 15 points and eight rebounds. Christian Jackson had 29 points for FSU.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they visit Gallaudet University at 7:00 p.m.
