Fields' Double-Double Leads UMW Men's Basketball Past Maryland Bible, 68-56

Freshman Lamont Fields scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds en route to All-Tournament team honors in leading the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 68-56 win over Maryland Bible College on Sunday in Rocky Mount, N.C. Sophomore Taylor Johnson added 18 points and nine rebounds in gaining all-tournament honors as well.

Fields started the day by making 11 of UMW's first 13 points, as the Eagles jumped ahead, 13-4, with five minutes gone by. Maryland Bible was able to cut the deficit to as few as eight with just over three minutes remaining, but the Eagles, shooting 49% from the floor, led at the half, 45-29.

The Eagles led 60-37 with 11 minutes left, but MBC made a 16-0 run to cut the deficit to 60-53 with 6:08 left. After a Fields layup, Bradley Riester and Johnson hit back-to-back three pointers to put the game out of reach.

Fields was 10-17 from the floor en route to 22 points, and grabbed 15 rebounds. Johnson was 7-15 with a pair of three pointers for his 18 points, and grabbed nine rebounds. Riester added 12 points as the third Eagle in double figures.

The Eagles dominated on the boards, with a 53-33 advantage, and limited MBC to 34% shooting.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit North Carolina Wesleyan College at 5:30 p.m.
