UMW Men's Basketball Tops York, 73-67, to Remain Undefeated in CAC Play

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team kept its conference record perfect Saturday by defeating York (Pa.) College 73-67.  The Eagles made 10 three-pointers and forced 25 Spartan turnovers, but committed 21 turnovers themselves, keeping York around for much of the second half of an ugly game at the William M. Anderson Center.

Senior guard Ryan Farrar (Ashburn, Va., Centreville, Va.) led the Eagles with 16 points on 4-8 shooting from behind the arc. Senior forward Tad Dickman (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) added 15 points and eight rebounds, including seven straight points during a stretch in the second half to help the Eagles pull away from a fiesty Spartan squad. Freshman Taylor Johnson (Ashburn, Va., Broad Run) rounded out the Eagles scoring in double figures with 10 points.

Forward Paul Kouvaris led the Spartans with 18 points and six rebounds, constantly finding his way to the foul line where he was 8-13 on the night. Guard Mo Oursler added 18 points on six three-pointers for York.

The Eagles trailed early but pulled ahead with a 9-1 run to close a sloppy first half that saw 33 tournovers between the two teams. Mary Washington stretched their lead to as much as 14 early in the second half before York could close to within one at the nine minute mark. The Eagles made their foul shots down the stretch to secure the win and improve their record to 5-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference and 10-4 overall. York fell to 2-3 in the CAC and 7-7 overall.

Mary Washington will be in action again Wednesday as they visit St. Mary's College (Md.) in a match-up between the only two teams without a loss in CAC play. Tip-off will be at 3 PM.
