UMW Men's Basketball Tops Stevenson, 94-59, To Improve to 17-7

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team shot a blistering 55% from the floor en route to a 94-59 win over Stevenson University on Wednesday night for senior night at the Anderson in Capital Athletic Conference play. The Eagles move back into a tie for first place in the CAC standings at 12-3 with one game to play.

The Mustangs stayed close for the opening 10 minutes, as UMW led, 11-10 with 10:41 left in the first half. But UMW would outscore the guests, 30-10, over the remainder of the half to take a 41-20 lead at halftime. After shooting 50% in the opening frame, UMW shot even better in the second, going 19-32 from the floor (59.4%), outscoring the Mustangs, 53-39.

The Eagles were led by senior Tad Dickman, who scored 14 points on 5-6 shooting. Also in double figures were sophomore E.J. Willis and freshman Sean Armstrong, who each scored 13 points. Armstrong and senior Ryan Henderson led UMW with seven rebounds apiece. Bradley Riester scored nine and Mike Harvey and Walt Smith each added eight for the winners. Stevenson was led by Stefon McCray's 11 points. UMW limited reigning CAC Player of the week Brett Burrier to seven points on 2-7 shooting.

Stevenson shot 39% from the floor (22-56), thanks to 52% shooting in the second half. The Eagles forced 22 turnovers while committing just 10, and won the battle on the boards, 40-29.

The Eagles will visit Wesley College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. With a win, UMW would secure the top seed in the CAC playoffs next week.
