The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped a 76-75 decision at Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon to drop its first Capital Athletic Conference game of the year and fall to 13-5 overall and 8-1 in league play.
The Eagles trailed throughout much of the game, but took a one-point lead on a three pointer by sophomore E.J. Willis (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) with 53 seconds left in the game. After a Frostburg turnover, the Eagles missed a pair of free throws. The Bobcats' Bradley Nunn, who had been 4-10 from the line in the game, connected for both to give the Bobcats the lead for good for the final of 76-75.
Mary Washington shot 42% from the floor with eight three pointers, but the Bobcats shot a blistering 51% (27-53). Both teams shot poorly from the free throw line, which had an impact as 59 fouls were called in the game. Frostburg was 17-34 from the charity stripe, while UMW went 19-36. Frostburg led in rebounds, 45-34.
The Eagles were led by sophomore guard Bradley Riester (Richmond, Va., Monacan) 's 15 points, while Henry Brisibe (South Riding, Va., Freedom) added 13 to go with 11 rebounds, and Walt Smith (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) scored 11 to go with seven assists. Troy Dockett had 26 for Frostburg.
Mary Washington will look to bounce back on Wednesday with a CAC game at home against Marymount University at 8:00 p.m.
