UMW Men's Basketball Tops Wesley, 83-69, to Improve to 7-0 in CAC Play

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team built up a 49-22 halftime advantage and held on for an 83-69 win over visiting Wesley College on Saturday. The Eagles remain undefeated in Capital Athletic Conference play at 7-0, and improve to 12-4 overall.

Sophomore guard Bradley Riester (Richmond, Va., Monacan) led the Eagles in the first half, making his first four three point attempts, as UMW connected for seven first half three pointers in 15 attempts. Wesley struggled to 29% shooting in the first stanza. Marcellus Holley (Chantilly, Va., Westfield) capped the first half with a three to beat the buzzer.

In the second half, the Eagles cooled from the floor, while Wesley heated up, making 17 field goals after only seven in the first half. The Eagle lead was trimmed to as few as 10, but were able to build the margin back over 20 before settling on the 14-point win. Senior guard Mike Harvey (East Berlin, Pa., Bermudian Springs) led the way in the second half, making 4-5 three pointers.

Riester led the Eagles with 16 points, while Harvey added 14. Freshman Sean Armstrong (Richmond, Va., Monacan) had 11 points and Holley added 10 for the Eagles. Sophomore guard Walt Smith (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) had seven assists to pace UMW. Wesley was led by Darrell Johnson's 17 points.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Hood College in another CAC contest starting at 8:00 p.m.
