The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team let a seven-point halftime lead slip away and eventually fell in double overtime to North Carolina Wesleyan College, 91-87, in the first game of the South Region Shootout in Winchester, Va. on Saturday. The Eagle sdrop to 2-2 on the season.

The Eagles opened up the 40-33 halftime cushion thanks to 44% shooting including six three pointers in the first frame. The Bishops held a two-point lead at 68-66 in the final minute, but a layin from junior guard Ryan Farrar (Ashburn, Va., Centreville, Va.) tied the score, sending the game to overtime.

In the first extra period, the Bishops went up on a three-pointer before UMW scored the next six points to take a 74-71 advantage. This time a three pointer in the final minute by NC Wesleyan would send the game to overtime number two.

NC Wesleyan ran the lead up to as many as eight in the second overtime, although UMW would cut it to two at 87-85 with less than a minute left. The Bishops made their final four free throw attempts to capture the victory.

UMW was led by freshman E.J. Willis (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams), who had 16 points and eight rebounds, and Farrar, who added 14 points. Freshman guard Walt Smith (Alexandria, Va., T.C. Williams) had 11 points, five assists, and four steals, and Rocky Ullah (Stafford, Va., Brooke Point) added 11 points for the Eagles, who will face Shenandoah on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
