UMW Men's Basketball Falls at Salisbury, 80-71



SALISBURY, MD - The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped an 80-71 decision at Salisbury University on Monday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 3-4 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

The lead changed hands several times in the first half, with UMW leading by as many as five, at 31-26. Salisbury led, 34-33, at halftime.

Mary Washington opened the half by scoring the first hoop and grabbing the lead, but Salisbury answered with a three pointer and UMW would never hold the lead again in the second half.

The Eagles were led by senior center Brandon Altmann (Vienna, Va., James Madison), who scored 23 points, while freshman guard Bart Reese (Herndon, Va., Oakton) added a career-high 20 for the Eagles. Ryan Henderson (Richmond, Va., Highland Springs) and Eric Rolander (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) each reached double figures with 10 points for the Eagles, who fall to 6-9 overall. Salisbury was led by Greg Palmer's 29 points.

The Eagles shot 49 precent from the floor, while Salisbury shot 51 percent. Mary Washington made 18 points from the free throw line, but Salisbury countered with nine three pointers. Each team grabbed 28 rebounds, and UMW committed a costly 17 turnovers.

Mary Washington will host York College on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. in another CAC showdown.
