ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - Senior center Brandon Altmann (Vienna, Va., James Madison) scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and senior forward Eric Rolander (Alexandria, Va., Gonzaga) added 22 points and seven boards, but the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped a 91-86 decision at 17th-ranked St. Mary's College on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles fall to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in CAC play.

Mary Washington kept the pace early in the game, leading 16-15 with 12:59 left to play in the first half. But the Seahawks started raining nearly every field goal over the next 10 minutes in building a 51-31 advantage. UMW was able to cut the deficit to 13 by halftime, 57-44.

The Eagles came out strong in the second half, and chipped away at the deficit until they found themselves down by just one point at 82-81 with 3:33 to play. But the Eagles weren't able to find the go-ahead score, falling by five.

St. Mary's shot a blistering 59% from the field, including 11-19 on three pointers, while the Eagles shot 45%. The Eagles made 24-33 free throws, and hauled in an impressive 22 offensive rebounds in outrebounding the Seahawks, 40-25. 

In addition to Altmann's 25 points on 8-13 shooting from the floor and 9-10 from the line, Rolander went 10-16 from the field. Also in double figures for UMW were freshman Bart Reese (Herndon, Va., Oakton) with 10 points and senior forward Sam Groseclose (Bridgewater, Va., Turner Ashby) with 10. St. Mary's was led by Camontae Griffin's 20 points.

The Eagles will host Marymount University in another CAC contest on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
