UMW Rowers Cap Fall Season at Head of the Occoquan Regatta

The Mary Washington Eagles crew raced in their third and final regatta of the fall season on Saturday, 4 November 2017 on the Occoquan Reservoir, Fairfax Station, VA.  The Head of the Occoquan is a head race that is roughly 5000 meters long, with the placing of the crews based on elapsed time over the race course.  Now in its 33rd year, HOTO is the sixth-largest rowing regatta on the U.S. East Coast.  Noticeably missing from the men's races were all the entries from St. Joseph's, as that program is under full sanction from the NCAA for multiple violations.

In the Collegiate Men's 8+ race, the UMW entry, coxed by AK Camper with stroke Kyle Moran, Sean Ingraham, Corey Staier, Dan Pan, Angus Long, John Wray, Quinton Veach, and Alex Dubik placed 14th out of 19 entries.  Faster crews included entries from Georgetown, Marietta College, George Mason, Pitt, LaSalle University, VCU, Loyola, New York Maritime, Duke, Carnegie Mellon, and University of Maryland.  Crews finishing behind UMW included second entries from George Mason and LaSalle, as well as St Mary's College, Susquehanna, and Old Dominion.

In the Collegiate Freshman/Novice Men's 8+ race, the UMW crew coxed by Delaney Resweber, with stroke Angus Long, John Wray, Quinton Veach, Max Radel, Chris Kostrzewa, Andrew Radel, Tim Morris, and Kieran O'Hare placed 8th out of 13 teams.  The two fastest crews were from Georgetown University, followed by two crews from LaSalle university, and one each from Pitt, George Mason, and University of Maryland. The Eagles managed to best the crews from Duke, Carnegie Mellon, VCU, St John's College, and a second George Mason entry.

In the Men's Collegiate 4+ race, the UMW entry, coxed by Delaney Resweber with stroke Kyle MoranSean Ingraham, Ty Michels, and Dan Pan placed 14th out of 27 entries. The five fastest entries were all from Georgetown, Marietta College, or George Mason.  Other crews faster than UMW included crews from two crews from Pitt, additional crews from Georgetown and GME, and entries from VCU, Loyola, Carnegie Mellon, and New York Maritime.  The Eagles bested crews from Duke, additional entries from New York Maritime, VCU, Pitt, and Carnegie Mellon, as well as crews from Old Dominion, St Mary's College, Duke, Maryland, LaSalle, West Virginia, Christopher Newport, and Catholic.

In the Women's Collegiate 4+ race, UMW entered one crew, coxed by Emily Siegfried with stroke, Kiele Marston, Zhanna Camp, Krista Beucler, and Lauren Chartier.  The UMW crew placed 19th out of 23 teams.    Faster crews were from Univ of Delaware, Pitt, George Washington, Carnegie Mellon, Robert Morris, U of Richmond, VCU, Maryland, and LaSalle.  UMW bested crews from American, St John's College, University of Maryland, and Christopher Newport.
