UMW Field Hockey Tops Bridgewater, 3-1, on Wednesday Night to Improve to 3-0

Junior Grayson Scott scored a pair of goals on assists from senior Emma Bernard 46 seconds apart in the first quarter in leading the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 3-1 victory at Bridgewater College on Wednesday night to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Midway through the first quarter, Scott scored on a Bernard pass at 7:24 to give UMW the lead, and that duo connected again at 8:10 to give the visitors a 2-0 cushion. UMW held the 2-0 margin until late in he second quarter, when Bridgewater trimmed the deficit in half.

The score stood a 2-1 until the final seconds of the game, when UMW added an insurance score, as Paige Stewart scored on a Lauren Boucher assist at 59:47.

In all, UMW led in shots, 8-2, as well as penalty corners, 7-2. UMW goalkeeper Bailey McNabb gained the win wihout making a save.

The Eagles will look to extend their season-opening win streak to four when they return to action on Saturday at Bryn Mawr College at 1:00 p.m.
