Junior forward Emma Bernard scored three goals to lead the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 4-1 victory at Juniata College on Wednesday night in Huntingdon, Pa. The Eagles improve to 5-9 on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, Bernard opened the scoring at 19:46, but Juniata answered to knot the score at 1-1 4:30 later. The game would remained tied at halftime.
In the third quarter, Bernard put UMW back ahead to stay, scoring at 48:03. She would add her third of the night 1:45 later on a Sydney Keating assist. Sophomore Paige Stewart capped the scoring with 25 seconds remaining on an Ellie Helbling assist.
UMW led in shots, 13-4, and penalty corners, 13-4. Eagle goalkeeper Bailey McNabb made a pair of saves in the win.
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host the University of Lynchburg at noon for Homecoming and Senior Day.
