UMW Field Hockey Falls to Salisbury, 4-0, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to visiting Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon at a rainy Battleground. The Eagles slip to 8-6 on the season.

The game began as a back-and-forth affair with much of the action taking place in the midfield. Neither team would score in the first quarter, but Salisbury scored first just seconds into the second quarter, and added another before halftime to take a 2-0 lead to intermission.

Much like the first half, both teams were stymied in the third quarter, with a weather delay coming late in the frame after a downpour through most of the period. Salisbury added a pair of goals in the fourth quarter for the 4-0 final.

Salisbury led in shots, 12-6, as well as penalty corners, 8-4. UMW senior goalie Chloe Billy (Midlothian, Va. / Godwin) made three stops in cage for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Oct. 25, when they visit the University of Lynchburg at 7:00 p.m.
