UMW Field Hockey Blanks Bridgewater, 5-0, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team used two goals and an assist from sophomore Emma Bernard (Fredericksburg, Va. / Chancellor) and a goal and assist from sophomore Riley Tengwall (Grasonville, Md. / Kent Island) in defeating Bridgewater College, 5-0, on Saturday. Senior Sydney Keating (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) collected two assists for the Eagles, who improve to 4-3 on the season.

Bernard opened the scoring on a Keating assist with nine minutes remaining in the first quarter to give the Eagles the lead. Tengwall scored her first of the day, on a Keating assist, with seven minutes remaining before halftime, and freshman Lauren Boucher (Virginia Beach, Va. / Frank W. Cox) scored her first with 5:25 on a Bernard assist.

After halftime, Bernard scored on a Tengwall assist just 40 seconds into the third quarter, and Paige Stewart (Richmond, Va. / Hermitage) capped the scoring with 8:26 left in the third quarter.

UMW's Eagles led in shots, 21-1, as well as penalty corners, 6-2. UMW goalkeeper Chloe Billy (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) gained the shutout without making a save.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Randolph-Macon College.
