UMW Field Hockey Falls to #3 Salisbury, 6-0, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 6-0 decision to third ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 5-10 overall and 0-3 in CAC action.

The Eagles hung tough in the early going, keeping the game scoreless until the waning minutes of the first quarter, as Salisbury broke through at 13:14 on a deflection. Salisbury added another early in the second quarter, and the game stayed at 2-0 until halftime. The Sea Gulls scored a pair of goals in the third quarter, and two more in the fourth for the 6-0 final.

Salisbury led in shots, 28-5, and in penalty corners, 9-3. UMW goalkeeper Jillian Lawrence made 11 saves and junior defender Jackie Smith made four defensive saves for the Eagles. Dom Ferrace had three saves for the Sea Gulls.

The Eagles will visit St. Mary's College on Saturday at 1:00 pm in another CAC matchup.
