The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision at 14th ranked Christopher Newport University on Friday night in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles slip to 5-7 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The Captains found the scoreboard once in the first quarter, and added another pair midway through the second, before the Eagles gained a bit of momentum by scoring with 36 seconds left before halftime. Lauren Hopkins found the cage on a redirect of an Emma Stewart deflection.
The Captains scored a pair of goals in the third and one in the fourth, before Hopkins continued her torrid scoring with another goal with 5:36 left.
The Eagles led in shots, 25-23, as well as on corners, 11-8. UMW goalkeeper Jillian Lawrence made 13 saves in goal for the Eagles, who will return to action on Tuesday when they visit FDU Florham at 4:00 pm.
