The University of Mary Washington field hockey team droped a 6-2 decision at the University of Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 2-4 on the season.
Eagle senior Lauren Hopkins continued her scoring streak by caging the first goal of the contest at 8:15 on an assist from junior Bella Urcia. The Eagles carried a 1-0 lead through the first quarter.
In the second, the Hornets awoke, scoring a pair of goals to grab the lead before halftime, and added three straight in the third to assume command. Hopkins scored again with 11:22 to play, unassisted. Lynchburg added a score in the final minutes for the final margin.
Lynchburg led in shots, 19-7, as well as in penalty corners, 9-4. UMW goalie Jillian Lawrence made eight saves on the day.
The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Catholic University at 4:00 p.m.
