UMW Field Hockey Falls to #4 Franklin & Marshall, 2-0, on Saturday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday at the Battleground, The Eagles slip to 2-2 on the season, while the Diplomats improve to 4-0.

In the first half, neither team could find a score, as both teams seized penalty corner opportunities, and the score stood scoreless at halftime. In the second half, F&M scored with 23:35 remaining on an unassisted tally from Katie O'Loughlin, and added an insurance goal from Erin Coverdale with 6:36 to go.

The Diplomats led in shots, 11-3, as well as in penalty corners, 9-3. UMW goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt made six saves, while Franklin & Marshall's Ilianna Santangelo stopped a pair of shots to record the shutout.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host Lynchburg College at 5:00 p.m.
