Lauren Hopkins Named CAC Field Hockey Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington sophomore Lauren Hopkins and Salisbury sophomore Jillian Hughes were picked as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Oct. 30, 2017.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Mary Washington sophomore Lauren Hopkins was picked as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling four goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for the Eagles, helping them advance through the first round of the CAC Tournament. On Thursday at Wesley, she scored one goal and added one assist as the Eagles defeated the Wolverines, 5-0. On Sunday in the CAC Tournament against St. Mary's, she netted three goals and added an assist in a 7-1 win. She leads the Eagles with 32 points on a team-high 14 goals and four assists this season.

Salisbury sophomore Jillian Hughes was chosen as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the SU defense to a shutout win over St. Mary's. The Sea Gull defense allowed just one shot in the game, and it was blocked before it could reach the cage. Hughes and the Sea Gulls have recorded five-straight shutout victories entering the CAC postseason.

Fourth-seeded Mary Washington defeated fifth-seeded St. Mary's 7-1 in the CAC Tournament first round contest on Sunday ... The CAC semifinals are set for Wednesday, with No. 1 Christopher Newport hosting No. 4 Mary Washington and No. 2 Salisbury hosting No. 3 York ... In the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Oct. 24 Rankings, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 5, Salisbury is No. 7, and York is No. 17 ... In the NCAA Regional Rankings, CNU (No. 1), Salisbury (No. 2) and York (No. 3) are the top three squads in the South Region ... Senior Savannah Neubert capped her Frostburg State career with four defensive saves in the Bobcats' 3-1 defeat to No. 17 York ... Salisbury freshman Jenna Partilla scored the second goal of her career, putting home an unassisted marker in the 43rd minute against St. Mary's as Salisbury won 2-0 ... The CAC's leading scorer, York senior Autumn Mallory, had a big game in the Spartans' final regular season contest at Frostburg State. Mallory notched the go-ahead goal shortly after Frostburg had tied the game early in the second half. She then recorded a key insurance goal in the 3-1 victory for the Spartans. For the season, Mallory continues to lead the CAC in goals (18) and points (38). Mallory has notched six game-winning goals, tying the school record held by Kelly Spencer (1996) and York College Hall of Famer Jaclyn Russell (1997 & 1998).
