UMW Field Hockey Tops Wesley, 5-0, in Regular Season Finale; Barbacow Wins 100th

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team erupted for five second half goals to defeat Wesley College, 5-0, in the regular season finale on Thursday night in Dover, Del. The win was the 100th in the seven year career of head coach Lindsey Barbacow.

After a scoreless first half, UMW opened the flood gates in the second. Sophomore Lexie Dixson scored at 40:55 on an assist from classmate Lauren Hopkins, and senior Allegra Massey-Elim added another at 44:20 on a pass from Dixson.

Hopkins followed in the next minute on an assist from Dixson, and junior Alaina Shivers upped the margin to 4-0 at 57:04, on an assist from Erin Kaila, and Shivers capped the scoring at 61:17 on a pass from senior Morgan LaRowe.

The Eagles led in shots, 37-0, and in penalty corners, 9-1. UMW goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt gained the shutout win without registering a save.

Barbacow improves to 100-33 through nearly seven seasons at the helm at UMW.

UMW will advance to the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Sunday, when they will face St. Mary's College in first round action at 1:00 p.m.
