UMW Field Hockey Tops St. Mary's, 2-0, on Tuesday in Road CAC Clash

Senior Allegra Massey-Elim scored a goal and an assist and sophomore Lauren Hopkins added another score to lead the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at St. Mary's College of Md. in Capital Athletic Conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 8-5 on the season, and 1-1 in CAC play.

Massey-Elim struck early, scoring her seventh goal of the season unassisted at 6:08. Then, at 21:38, Hopkins netted her ninth of the season on assists from Massey-Elim and Noor Varjabedian off a penalty corner.

The Eagles led in shots, 24-8, as well as penalty corners, 11-6. UMW goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt had four saves in picking up the shutout. Alyssa Thompson had nine saves for St. Mary's while the Seahawks also picked up a pair of defensive saves.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit York College in another CAC contest at 1:00 p.m.
