#17 UMW Field Hockey Tops Randolph-Macon, 8-0, on Thursday Afternoon

The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington caged four goals in each half in defeating visiting Randolph-Macon College, 8-0, on Thursday evening at the Battleground. UMW snaps a three game skid and improves to 6-4 on the season.

UMW opened the scoring just 4:09 into the contest, as senior Allegra Massey-Elim connected on a Meredith LeBel assist on a penalty corner. Then, 1:27 later, Massey-Elim scored again, this time on a pass from sophomore Lexie Dixson, to up the UMW advantage to 2-0. Junior Morgan LaRowe connected on an unassisted tally off a saved shot at 20:10 to push the lead to 3-0, and sophomore Lauren Hopkins scored on a Bella Urcia assist.

In the second half, freshman Izzy Scholz scored unassisted eight minutes into the frame, and junior Alaina Shivers connected on a pair of back to back goals. Shivers' first came at 59:23, and the next came at 65:03, and both were unassisted. Junior Shelby Press capped the scoring on a rebound off a shot that hit the goal post at 68:52.

The Eagles led in shots, 35-1, as well as in penalty corners, 10-0. UMW goalkeepers Jessica Cavolt and Ivy Hollander split time in goal to register the shutout. Kelsey Stanley had 13 saves for RMC, with Ariel Salerno adding two in relief.

Mary Washington will be back in action for their third game in five days on Saturday when they visit Shenandoah University at noon.
