Erin Kaila Named CAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington senior Erin Kaila and St. Mary's senior Sophie Michel were selected as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Sept. 18, 2017.

Mary Washington senior Erin Kaila garnered CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling two goals and three assists in wins over Eastern Mennonite and Lynchburg for the 17th-ranked Eagles. Kaila notched one goal and one assist against Eastern Mennonite, and added a goal and two assists vs. Lynchburg. 

 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Westminster, Md. | Westminster 

St. Mary's senior Sophie Michel earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week after picking up four defensive saves in a 2-1 week for the Seahawks. Michel notched a defensive save in a 2-1 shootout loss to Roanoke before adding a program single-game record of three defensive saves in a 3-1 win over Susquehanna. She currently leads the CAC with five defensive saves this season.

In the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Sept. 12 Rankings, Salisbury is ranked No. 3, Mary Washington is No. 17, Christopher Newport is No. 18, and York is receiving votes ... Sunday's victory over Rhodes marked the 200th win of Christopher Newport head coach Carrie Moura's career. In 15 years at the help of the program, she now stands at 200-63. Her .760 winning percentage currently ranks 15th in the history of collegiate field hockey among coaches with at least 200 victories. It also ranks eighth among active coaches at all levels of the NCAA. CNU freshman Courtney Fiest notched three assists for Bridgewater (Va.), which tied the fourth-highest single-game output in program history and equaled the most ever by a freshman, matching the mark established by Samantha Howard against Mary Baldwin in 2004 ... Frostburg State sophomore Logan Gladden burst on the scene for the Bobcats last week, finishing with a hat trick and an assist in a 6-1 win over Hendrix in her only game of the week ... Mary Washington's 6-0 win over Lynchburg was the most lopsided Eagle win in 19 all-time meetings with the Hornets. UMW goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt logged 105 scoreless minutes this week, picking up a pair of wins. She had one save in 35 minutes against Eastern Mennonite, and had five stops in a shutout over Lynchburg. Cavolt has an 85.7 save percentage on the season, with a 0.60 GAA for the 5-1 Eagles ... Sydney Cline scored two of St. Mary's six goals in a 2-1 week for the Seahawks. Cline started the week with the insurance tally in a 2-0 shutout of Wilson on the road before scoring third goal in a 3-1 win over Susquehanna. She is currently second on the team with two goals and five points ... Salisbury posted a pair of 3-0 shutout wins over Washington College and Cabrini last week. Jillian Hughes posted a defensive save and led an SU defense that allowed just 10 total shot attempts, while Arielle Johnston scored once in each game, including the game-winner vs. Washington College ... Rebecca Dvorak scored the lone goal in Wesley's 1-0 victory over Keystone on Saturday ... York went 2-0 for the week with wins over Susquehanna and Albright. Autumn Mallory tallied two goals and an assist. She leads the Spartans with 11 points (5g, 1a) this season. Goalkeeper Eve Hauptle played 140 minutes with one goal allowed and nine saves. She finished with a 0.50 goals against average and 90.0 save percentage. For the season, Hauptle has a 1.75 goals against average and a .727 save percentage.
