UMW Field Hockey Tops Nazareth, 6-0, in Sunday Action

Freshman Izzy Scholz scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over Nazareth College on Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania. The Eagles improve to 1-1 on the young season.

UMW raced out to a 4-0 halftime lead, with freshman Morgan MacCartney opening the scoring at 8:33. Senior Morgan LaRowe upped the advantage to 2-0 at 20:11, and senior Erin Kaila scored off a penalty corner from Madison Healyat 28:57. Scholz netted her first collegiate goal at 34:03, beating the keeper near side, and sending the Eagles to intermission in front, 4-0.

In the second half, Scholz struck quickly, scoring her second of the day just 1:17 into the second half. Freshman Bella Urcia followed with her first goal five minutes later as the capper.

UMW led in shots, 43-1, and in penalty corners, 26-0. Jessica Cavolt and Ivy Hollander each spent 35 minutes in goal for the Eagles in splitting the shutout.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when they host Bridgewater College in the home opener at 4 p.m.
