UMW Field Hockey Falls to #2 Salisbury in 2016 CAC Championship

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped an 8-0 decision at second ranked Salisbury University on Saturday evening in the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference championship. The Eagles close the season with a mark of 12-6.

Salisbury's high powered offense struck quickly and never slowed, as the Sea Gulls opened the scoring at 3:36 on a score from Becca Rinaca, and added another at 6:16 on a score from Kristen Yingling. Rinaca scored at 10:32 on a Yingling assist, and Yingling capped the first half scoring at 24:41.

In the second, the Sea Gulls scored three times in a three-minute span to open the action, and added another with 18 minutes left for the win.

Salisbury led in shots, 19-13, and UMW led in penalty corners, 9-6. UMW goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt had six saves for the Eagles, and McKenzie Burnett added a defensive save. Tressie Windsor had seven saves for the Sea Gulls.
