UMW Field Hockey Tops Frostburg, 3-0, on Tuesday Evening

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team defeated Frostburg State University, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in Frostburg, Md., to improve to 8-4 on the season, and 2-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The game remained scoreless for much of the first half, but the Eagles were able to forge ahead just before halftime, as sophomore Shelby Press scored on an Allegra Massey-Elim assist at 30:46. UMW held a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

In the second, the Eagles added an insurance score at 42:50, as Massey-Elim scored on a Christine Loehr assist. Junior captain Erin Kaila scored at 57:19 on another Loehr feed.

The Eagles led in shots, 25-2, and held an 18-0 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore goalie Jessica Cavolt made two saves in goal for UMW, while Frostburg's Jacqueline Gover made 14 stops for the Bobcats.

UMW will be back in action again on Friday when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 7:00 p.m.
