#17 UMW Field Hockey Falls at #4 Salisbury, 6-1, on Saturday Night

The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision at fourth-ranked Salisbury University on Saturday night in Salisbury, Md. The Eagles fall to 6-4 overall, and 0-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

Salisbury started the scoring at 6:07, as Abbey Shobe scored unassisted, and moved the score to 2-0 on another Shobe tally just 1:39 later. The Sea Gulls upped the lead to 3-0 as Becca Rinaca scored at 25:13.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard at 28:40, as freshman Lexie Dixson scored on an Allegra Massey-Elim assist on a penalty corner. Salisbury regained momentum with a score at 30:35 from Natalie Wilkinson to lead, 4-1, at halftime.

In the second half, Salisbury scored at 39:26 on an Anna Brittingham score, and again at 62:23 on a Nicole Lindner pass to cap the scoring at 6-1.

Salisbury led in shots, 22-9, and in penalty corners, 14-10. UMW goalkeeper Jessica Cavolt had nine saves and Noor Varjabedian had a defensive save for the Eagles, while Tressie Windsor had four saves and Jillian Hughes added a defensive save for Salisbury.

The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday when they host St. Mary's College at 12:00 p.m. in another CAC showdown.
