#12 UMW Field Hockey Blanks Eastern Mennonite, 7-0, in Wednesday Action

Senior forward Christine Loehr and junior forward Morgan LaRowe each had a pair of goals to the lead the 12th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 7-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season.

Mary Washington jumped ahead early, as sophomore Trisha Le scored 43 seconds into the game. Loehr added her first tally seven minutes later, to push the margin to 2-0. LaRowe scored with 8:33 remaining in the half, and again 58 seconds later, giving UMW a 4-0 cushion they would carry to halftime.

In the second half, freshman Lauren Hopkins, who had assisted on LaRowe's first goal, scored one of her own 4:38 into action. Loehr scored on a Victoria Novak assist with 13:25 remaining, and junior Allegra Massey-Elim followed with 1:38 left on an Erin Kaila penalty corner.

The Eagles led in shots, 26-3, and in penalty corners, 10-5. Jessica Cavolt had one save in 35 minutes for UMW, splitting time with freshman Ivy Hollander. Michelle Danek had eight saves in relief for EMU.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they host Franklin & Marshall College at 1:00 p.m.
