UMW Field Hockey Raises Money and Awareness with Alzheimer's Awareness Day

UMW Field Hockey Raises Money and Awareness with Alzheimer's Awareness Day

On Wednesday, September 23 the UMW Field Hockey team beat Virginia Wesleyan 7-0. However, that was a secondary cause for the Eagles. The team was playing under the banner of Alzheimer’s Awareness. The Alzheimer’s Awareness Game has turned into an annual event for the team to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s research.

The team continued their efforts into the weekend, during which they participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The team, as well as the University, contributed as a group, with the name Eagles Walk United for UMW.

UMW freshman field hockey player, Shelby Press said of the event, “Working hard for something so much bigger than myself was a rewarding experience. Alzheimer’s affects so many people in the world, including my Grandma Polly, so to have a personal connection to this event made it really special for my family and I.”

In addition to doing the Walk, the team assisted in the setting up of the event, as well as, closing the event. UMW Field Hockey raised $2,222 in all for the cause!
