#14 UMW Field Hockey Falls at #17 Lynchburg, 3-1, on Wednesday Night

The 14th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team jumped out to a 1-0 first half lead, but had it slip away in a 3-1 loss at #17 Lynchburg College on Wednesday night in Lynchburg. The Eagles fall to 4-2 on the season.

After a scoreless first half of the first period in which the Eagles registered several shots and penalty corners, UMW got on the board with a goal from Kathleen Namey on a Carlee Budd assist on a penalty corner.

Lynchburg tied the score 10 minutes into the second half on a score from Lacey Elliott. The Hornets took the lead with 8:49 remaining on a Meredith Bradsher goal, and added another score less than four minutes later from Alyssa Mills for the 3-1 win.

The Eagles led in shots, 19-12, and in penalty corners, 13-4. UMW goalie Caroline Freeman had five saves for the Eagles, while Beka Hess had nine saves for Lynchburg.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday, when they face the University of Rochester at Sppoky Nook Sports Complex in Pennsylvania at 12:00 p.m.
