Steele's Big Night Leads #15 UMW Field Hockey Past Bridgewater, 6-0

Senior forward Jenna Steele scored four goals, including the 50th of her career, to lead the 15th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over Bridgewater College on Wednesday night at UMW. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season.

Steele becomes just the second player in school history to surpass 50 goals, and moved into third place in career scoring with 128 points.

Steele started the scoring with 21:44 remaining in the first half, and added another with 18:07 remaining. Steele completed the hat trick with 10:16 remaining on a Haley Kane assist.

After an hour and a half hour lightning delay, junior Christine Loehr scored on a Steele assist three minutes into the second half. Freshman Alaina Shivers scored on a Loehr pass with 16:14 left, and Steele scored less than three minutes later to cap the scoring.

The Eagles led in shots, 19-4, and penalty corners, 9-5. Freshman Jessica Cavolt had two saves in gaining the shutout for UMW.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Franklin and Marshall College at 1:00 p.m.
