#18 UMW Field Hockey Tops St. Mary's, 4-2, to Win Fourth Straight

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team scored a pair of goals in each half to top St. Mary's College, 4-2, on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 12-3 overall, and 3-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

Sophomore Christine Loehr opened the scoring, scoring on the first of Jenna Steele's three assists for the day with 5:34 elapsed in the game. The Eagles upped the lead to 2-0 with 17:53 remaining, as Steele found junior Haley Kane in the circle for Kane's ninth goal of the season. The Seahawks scored in the final minute of the half on a goal by Nina Collins to draw the halftime deficit to 2-1.

In the second half, junior Carlee Budd scored on a Steele assist following a penalty corner with 19:14 left in the half to up the lead to 3-1. Senior Christine Downie made the score 4-1 with 8:15 left, scoring the Eagles' final tally on senior day. The Seahawks answered with a goal with 5:53 remaining, moving the final mrgin to 4-2.

Mary Washington led in shots, 29-3, and in penalty corners, 17-2. Meghan McLaughlin made one save in 65 minutes and Katie Kolobielski came in in relief for the final five minutes without a save for UMW. St. Mary's' Christy Bishop had 18 saves.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host York College in another CAC tilt starting at 4:00 p.m.
