#18 UMW Field Hockey Tops Frostburg in Wednesday Night CAC Clash, 3-1

Under rainy skies,  the 18th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team pulled out a 3-1 victory against Capital Athletic Conference rival Frostburg State University on Wednesday night in Frostburg. The Eagles improve to 11-3 on the season.

For the first time this season the Eagles gave up the first goal in a game. But that did not make the Eagles falter. After Taylor Bowen scored off a deflected shot from Ashley Johnson at 3:25, the Eagles scored three unanswered goals. 

At halftime, the game was tied but the Eagles came out in the second half looking to score. UMW nearly doubled their shot count from 12 shots in the first to 21 in the second. 

The Eagles took nine corners in the first and 13 in the second. Both of their second half goals came off corners. Those goals came from Kathleen Namey and Carlee Budd

Jenna Steele also added a goal and assists came from Christine Loehr, Haley Kane and Steele.

As for Frostburg, the Bobcats had a total of nine shots and six penalty corners.

Megan McLaughlin had four saves for the Eagles and Jacqueline Gover had 24 saves for the Bobcats.

The Eagles will return to home play on Oct. 18 against St. Mary's for their senior game at 1:00.
