Steele Sparks Offense in UMW Field Hockey's 8-1 Win at Randolph-Macon

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team travelled to Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday to make up a game previously scheduled for September 4th. The Eagles came out with an 8-1 victory and improved to 10-3 on the season.

The Eagles could not get the offensive production they are used to until they scored for the first time after letting 17:44 tick off the clock. Junior forward Jenna Steele sparked the Eagles with the first goal and scored three more after. This is Steele's second four-goal game in the last three contests; over that three-game period she has scored nine goals to give her at a total of 15 on the season. UMW goals also came from Nicole Guinn, Noor Varjabedian, Christine Loehr, and Christine Downie.

The Eagles had a total of 28 shots, with 14 coming in each half. The also had a combined total of 15 corners.

The scoreboard was controlled by UMW but Randolph Macon had its chances. The Yellow Jackets had a total of 15 shots and 11 corners. Catherine Pricone also netted a goal at 32:16. 

Sophomore goalie Megan McLaughin was in net for the first 56 minutes and made six saves. Freshman Katie Kolobielski also made an appearance for the final 14 minutes but did not record a save.

The Yellow Jackets played both Kelsey Stanely and Shannon McMurray in the net for 35 minutes. They totalled 13 saves.

The Eagles return to action in an away game on October 14th against conference rival Frostburg State University at 7:00 pm.
