#18 UMW Field Hockey Blanks Wesley, 5-0, in CAC Opener

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington field hockey team used goals from five different players in downing Wesley College, 5-0, on Saturday in both teams' Capital Athletic Conference opener. The Eagles improve to 9-3 overall.

The Eagles opened the scoring on a penalty stroke from junior Carlee Budd with 23:41 remining in the first half, and scored twice in the waning moments of the half. Christine Loehr scored with 3:26 left, and junior Nicole Guinn added another with two minutes left, giving UMW a 3-0 halftime lead.

In the second, freshman Morgan LaRowe scored immediately after entering the contest, 11 minutes into the half. Sophomore Kaitlyn Talliaferro capped the scoring on a Loehr assist with 10:53 remaining.

The Eagles led in shots, 31-4, and in penalty corners, 16-4. Sophomore goalie Megan McLaughlin didn't record a save in 55 minutes of action, and freshman Katie Kolobielski added one save in the final 15 minutes for UMW. Three goalies combined for 14 saves for Wesley.

The Eagles will return to action on October 7 when they visit Randolph-Macon College in a makeup contest starting at 4:30 p.m.
